Botswana as a 4X4 Destination

4x4 adventures in Africa

Driving through national parks in Botswana is certainly more challenging than driving round locations with infrastructure such as tarred roads (such as, say Pilanesberg Game Reserve). Most of the trails are quite rough.

However, it’s not too bad if you have a decent 4Wheel Drive vehicle. Why not check out some of South Africa 4×4’s
top class vehicles? The fleet includes 25 Land Rover 110 Defenders, 18 Toyota Hilux Double Cab 4×4s and 4 Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4s.

Botswana undoubtedly has some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. The variety of habitats results in anextraordinaryvariation in wildlife – both fauna and flora. All in all, it’s a great place to take a 4×4 to. Below we list some of the top destinations you can visit while roughing in in Botswana.

The Chobe National Park

Chobe is famous for its elephants – and herds of 200 are common, especially in the dry season. There are three main areas of the park – Savuti is famous for its predators, Linyanti is picturesque and tranquil, and the riverfront boasts an incredible variety of game, birdlife and aquatic life.

The Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is certainly one of the most famous destinations in Botswana. This is a natural wonder, spreading water and marshlands thousands of square kilometers into the desert. Moremi Game Reserve to the eastern side of the delta is one of Southern Africa’s most inviting wildlife areas.

The Central Kalahari

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the world’s second largest. The north of the reserve features fossil river valleys, with large populations of desert species such as springbok and gemsbok. Prepare yourself for some of the most amazing night skies the world has to offer.

Salt Pans

Makgadikgadi includes a massive expanse of salt flats, covering thousands of square kilometers. North of this is Nxai Pan National Park – a grassy pan that attractshuge herds of animals in the wet season. Plan on staying for a while – these national parks have much to see and you will want to see it all.
